About Us

Where it began...

Aquila Montessori School is a sister school to Posh Minions Montessori School, our flagship school situated in Dawn Park, Boksburg, which came into being in 2017.

Posh Minions was born as a response to many years of struggling, which all started in 2014 when we had just moved to Dawn Park. We were a dual-career household (as most households are these days) and needed a caregiver for our small children. Unfortunately, as often is the case, finding the right caregiver proved to be an arduous exercise as we struggled to find caregivers to complement our hectic schedules. It quickly became apparent that if this was a chronic problem for our family, then surely other families were also going through the same – this problem was not unique to us. So this became a problem we wanted to solve.

So, in 2015, we started a 24-hour babysitting service, which we ran at our former residential home. The babysitting service was an immediate success – not surprising - and before you knew it, there were 18 children on our premises.

As a result of this success, we transformed the babysitting service into a school in 2017. Posh Minions Montessori School was then born, inspired by a Montessori school we visited during a USA trip to a friend. So if we had to start a school, it had to be a Montessori School.

Initially, our School served children between 3 months and 3 years. Post 2017, the School remains our Pre-primary School, which caters to our little Montessorians aged 18 months to 5 years old. Then, in 2020, we started Aquila Montessori School to accommodate our growing Montessorians. The School starts from Grade R through Grade 7.

Our little ones are still growing, and so is the School.

Our Philosophy

At Posh & Aquila Montessori, we designed our classrooms to be vibrant, interactive environments where children learn through exploration and discovery. We utilise mixed-age groupings to foster peer learning and ensure that every child has the freedom to choose their activities. Our educators provide personalised, one-on-one guidance to support each child’s unique development.

We believe that children are naturally curious and capable learners. By creating a child-centred environment, we nourish their innate inquisitiveness and empower them to take charge of their learning journey. This approach helps children develop a growth mindset, embrace challenges, and learn from mistakes.

Our goal is to cultivate independent, confident, and knowledgeable individuals. We aim to instil a lifelong love for learning and equip our learners with the skills and resilience to thrive in the real world. At Posh & Aquila Montessori,we are committed to developing capable, accountable, and self-assured individuals ready to face the future.

Our Environment

We recognise the crucial role of the environment in a child’s learning journey. With this in mind, we designed our multi-age Montessori classrooms to be:

  • Aesthetically pleasing and organised to accelerate learning, enhance comprehension, and improve retention
  • Dynamic spaces where children move freely, choose activities and engage with hands-on materials that
  • Flexible to allow children to learn at their own pace.make abstract concepts tangible
  • Collaborative, promoting peer learning and reinforcing knowledge, enhancing both academic skills and social-emotional intelligence
  • Calm and inviting to help children develop discipline and focus

Our outdoor spaces connect children with nature, allowing them to apply classroom learning in real-world contexts
